WH Partners (Malta): State Aid Temporary Framework to Support the EU Economy in the Context of the COVID-19 Pandemic

Amidst the COVID-19 outbreak causing significant economic downturn around the world the EU has taken steps to make the state aid rules more flexible in order to facilitate Member States’ efforts to assist local undertakings.

Article 107 of the Treaty on Functioning of the European Union provides that save exceptions, Member States are prohibited from providing state aid ‘in any form whatsoever which distorts or threatens to distort competition by favoring certain undertakings or the production of certain goods’. MORE.
